The cooperation between PILZ and TÜV NORD ensures that the quality of the CMSE® - Certified Machine Safety Expert - qualification is ensured on an international scale. The four-day expert training covers all areas - from the analysis of risk factors, the development of safety concepts to the correct procedure for placing devices and machines on the market. The teacher has a lot of experience in the field of machine safety. Uses real project examples to convey the necessary competence, so you will not only gain theoretical knowledge in the training, but also develop a practical understanding.

Industrial safety training "Certified Machinery Safety Expert" will soon be organized in Kaunas, which will be conducted by a TÜV-certified expert from the manufacturer PILZ from Denmark.

The four-day course is divided into 5 modules consisting of presentations, workshops, Q&A and participant engagement. The training is completed by passing an exam that verifies the competence of the participants.

DETAILED TRAINING PROGRAM

The four-day course is divided into 5 modules which consist of presentations, workshops, questions and answers and attendee participation. The training concludes with the completion of an examination to ensure competence of the participants.

 

Module 1

Module 1 provides an introduction to the course and also to Safety of Machinery, Legislation and Standards. The module is divided into three parts as follows:

  • Fundamentals of Safety
  • Introduction to safety legislation and standards

 

Module 2

Module 2 covers Equipment and Workplace Regulations in relation to machinery, as well as the Machinery Directive (including CE Marking requirements) and Occupational Health and Safety considerations for machinery. The module is in three parts as follows:

  • Requirements of technical directives applicable to industrial equipment and their requirements
  • CE Marking and the Machinery Directive
  • Occupational Health and Safety

 

Module 3

The importance of Risk Assessment, including legal requirements and methods, is presented in module 3. This is followed by a Risk Assessment Workshop to practice some of the risk assessment methods reviewed. The module is divided as follows:

  • Risk Assessment
  • Risk Assessment Workshop

 

Module 4

Once machinery is assessed, risk reduction through safeguarding may be required. This module provides the definitions and requirements of safeguarding including mechanical guarding and safety components. The module also covers electrical safety. Details of content as follows:

Module 5

Safety design is a key step in ensuring the risk reduction of a machine. This module outlines the requirements to consider when undertaking safety design of safety related parts of control system, and also an introduction to hydraulic and pneumatic considerations. Details of content as follows:

  • Functional Safety of Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems
  • Functional Safety Workshop

 

COURSE EXAMINATION

The CMSE® examination is a key component in attaining certification from TÜV NORD. The examination will take place on the last (fourth) day of the training. The examination establishes if the participant is able to apply the knowledge gained during the training to answer questions relating to relevant machinery safety issues. It also establishes that the participant has understood the content of the training and can recall the relevant requirements through the examination process. The examination will take place online in the English language according to agreement.

Exam Procedure

♦ The examination shall be taken online, so own laptop is brought to the training with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge Chromium installed. The exam consists solely of multiple-choice questions

♦ TÜV NORD selects 40 questions to be presented

♦ The examination will last 60 minutes

♦ The examination is an ‘open book exam' during the examination. Use of course handouts is allowed during the examination

♦ The “CMSE-Certified Machinery Safety Expert“ examination is deemed to have been passed if a minimum of 32 questions out of a total of 40 questions are answered correctly

♦ Examination candidates who fail to pass the examination are notified and are offered dates where the examination can be repeated

 

Full attendance at all 5 training modules is necessary to undertake the examination.
